How to connect the power of the unit:
- RDU download units were designed to be powered after the ignition (switched supply), so they start again every time the ignition is turned on. They can also be connected to permanent power.
- Units with GPS (for example LTE units with a terminal ID starting with TP) need permanent power.
How to see it in the log
Every time the unit connects to the server, the log on the RDU administration website shows a line with "Restart:" and the reason:
- Power reset: the unit got power. A unit powered after the ignition shows this every time the ignition is turned on. A unit on permanent power shows it only after it was installed or after its power was interrupted.
- Reconnect: the unit only connected again, it did not restart. This is normal.
- Watchdog reset or Main Clock stop caused reset: the unit restarted by itself. If this happens often, check the wiring and whether another unit is connected to the C connector of the tachograph, see Another unit connected to the Tachograph C port.
The "Ignition turned on." and "Ignition turned off." lines show when the ignition was turned on and off.

Typical problems
- Many "Power reset" lines while the vehicle is driven: the power of the unit is interrupted. Check the fuse, the connector and the power wire.
- A unit on permanent power stays offline for days while the vehicle is used: disconnect its power for a few seconds. If this happens again with a download unit, connect it after the ignition. For a unit with GPS, contact support.
Contact support
If the unit keeps going offline, open a ticket and send:
- the terminal ID,
- whether the unit is powered after the ignition or permanently,
- a photo of the wiring,
- since when the unit is offline.
