Step 1: Prepare your hardware and software

PC with preinstalled Microsoft Windows or Linux operating system(the newer the better to have the latest security fixes). It is recommended to turn off automatic updates in order to avoid unnecessary restarts of the system.

Small scale PC's should be used here in order to limit the electricity usage as much as possible.

Multiple smartcard readers or a dedicated smartcard reader rack with multiple card readers included

Fast and stable internet connection

UPS for power protection

Note: Microsoft Windows operating systems have a limitation of 10 card readers so it is better to choose the Linux instead. Read more about this on our help section.


Step 2: Get your account

You will need a service provider account which will be created by our team on your first purchase of TachoSAFE RDU devices.

This account will be administered through RDU Admin portal.



Step 3: Create a new company

You will have to create a new account on the RDU admin portal by following instructions at our freshdesk article related to create a new company.

Note: You will get a confirmation email to the address provided earlier so please make sure you check also in you Email applications Spam folder too.


Step 4: Add RDU device to the newly created company

RDU devices installed in the vehicles needs to be added under the newly created company. This devices should show up in your device list and you can move now to the newly created company.


Step 5: Install the manager application

The only application that should run on this PC should be the RDU MultiCompany Manager.


Step 6: Login into the manager application

Login with the credentials received in your email address at Step 3.


Step 7: Insert your company card into one of the smartcard readers

Make sure you insert the card with chip side indicated by the card reader and observe the light indicators on the reader. Most of the smartcard readers will show you proper insertion with a stable green light or blinking in orange or green(in case some activity from the operating system)

Note: If you are not sure then try to flip the card, but make sure you always insert with the chip into the reader.


Step 8: Add the company card to the application

Add the newly inserted company card to the company. This article describes the whole process.
