If you encounter that the smart card reader disappears or the smart card reader service stopes working then you need to disable the USB selective suspending.

Press the Windows key and in the start menu entre: Edit power plan

In the Power plan settings press the Change advanced power settings

Search for the USB Settings and set the USB selective suspend settings to disabled and press the OK button.

Now the smart card readers won't be disabled when they are not used so often.
